Lie on the flat bench with rack, feet on the floor. A slight gap between the bench and the lower back is permissible. Your eyes should be directly below the bar.
Grip the barbell at shoulder width. Palms up. Be sure to wrap your thumbs around the bar.
Lift the bar from the rack to arms length. The bar should now be over your chest. Shoulders flat against the bench.
Keeping your arms straight, press the bar up until your shoulders are as far off the bench as possible.
Breathing: Inhale on lowering the bar, exhale on raising the bar.
